A Synopsis of the Bill of Rights

     America's Bill of Rights encompasses the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution and encapsulates American's rights in relation to their government. It guarantees civil rights and liberties to the individual-like freedom of speech, press, and religion. It sets rules for due prosess of law and reserves all powers not delegated to the Federal Government to the people or the States. And, it specifies that "the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."

A Synopsis of the Declaration of Independence

     America's Declaration of Independence begins long before the document was ever drafted for signatory in 1776.  It began at Plymouth Rock in 1620 when Willam Bradford and other pilgrims disembarked from the Mayflower and founded Plymouth Colony in December of that year. Long before George Washington made his famous trip across the Deleware River, weary pilgrims crossed the Atlantic Ocean to begin new lives without tyranny and the excessive government rule of their home countries.

     The resulting Declaration of Independence of July 4, 1776 was the crowning victory for all American's who sought freedom from oppression of any kind. Our nation's forefathers understood the fundamental truth that the Creator God, created people equally and He endowed in them the "...certain unalienable Rights,..."

Standing up for the US Constitution

     Regardless of whether or not you served in the military, every American citizen needs to revere the Constitution of the United States for it is a lasting document drafted by our nation’s forefathers for the people of all future American generations. It begins in this manner…

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

In addition to the U.S.Constitution are the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence, two godly crafted documents which outline the basic human rights of all Americans.

These founding documents can be reviewed in "enlarged format at Mark Watson Park, next to the Post 104 Legion Hall in Sylva, North Carolina.
